Custom mushroom products for retailers and brands

Custom mushroom products are items Mondo makes for a business partner outside the standard range: a different format, a combination set or packaging built for one channel. Because Mondo produces in-house in Purmerend, the producer assesses your request itself instead of passing it on to a third party. Whether a request is feasible, and on what terms, is agreed per project.

What counts as a custom product?

A custom product is anything that needs a change in what Mondo produces or packs, beyond putting your brand on an existing item. Requests businesses bring to a producer typically fall into a few groups:

  • Format: a different pack size or a different grow kit or grow bag size.
  • Combination sets: a grow kit bundled with grow tools, or a set of several strains.
  • Strain selection: a specific Psilocybe cubensis strain from the range for a line of your own, such as Golden Teacher, Amazonian or Avery’s Albino.
  • Packaging for a channel: a format that fits a shop display, a gift set or a retailer’s shelf.

These are examples of what to discuss, not a fixed menu. Which changes are possible is decided per request.

How is it different from white and private label?

White label changes the brand on an existing product. Private label adds your packaging design and specification. Custom products go one step further and change the product, set or format itself. They can be sold under the Mondo name or under your brand, depending on what is agreed.

Who asks for custom products?

  • Smartshops and headshops that want a set or format their competitors do not stock.
  • Distributors that need a format suited to a specific market or retail chain.
  • Brands with a private label line that want to extend it.
  • Wellness brands whose needs fall outside the microdosing solutions concepts, where local law allows the products.

How does a custom request run?

1
Describe the request. What the product is, who buys it, in which countries, and expected volumes.
2
Feasibility check. Mondo assesses whether production can make it and what it involves.
3
Specification and sample. If it is feasible, the product is specified; whether a sample or test run comes first is agreed per project.
4
Agreement. Price, minimum quantity, lead time and payment terms are set.
5
Production and delivery. Mondo produces in Purmerend and ships from the Netherlands, or handles shipping through fulfillment.

What makes a request easy to assess?

  • ☐ A clear description of the product and its use in your shop or channel.
  • ☐ Target countries, checked against local law.
  • ☐ Expected volume for the first order and over a year.
  • ☐ Brand and packaging wishes, with artwork if you have it.
  • ☐ Your timing, such as a launch date or season.
  • ☐ Company details, including VAT or chamber of commerce number.

Start from the closest standard product

Name the standard Mondo product that comes closest to what you want and say what should change. A request phrased as “this kit, but in a different size” is easier to assess than a description from scratch.

What is agreed per project?

Development effort, minimum quantities, lead times, prices and payment terms are agreed per project. They depend on how far the request departs from the standard range. Mondo does not publish them.

Legal limits apply to custom products as to any other. A new format or set does not change the legal status of what is inside it. Outside the Netherlands you check your local law for every product in the set; the legal status per country page helps. Products are sold for mycological research, educational, horticultural or souvenir purposes, to adults (18+). This is not legal advice.

Questions about custom products

Is there a minimum order for custom products?

Minimums for custom products are agreed per project, because they depend on what has to change in production. Ask for the minimum when you describe your request.

Can I order a custom product under the Mondo brand?

That is possible to discuss. Some custom items suit the Mondo name, others are better under your own brand through private label.

Will my custom product be sold to other partners?

Discuss this up front. If you want sole rights to a product or region, see exclusive partnerships.

Can Mondo make products outside mycology?

Mondo’s range is grow kits, grow bags, truffles, spores, liquid cultures, tinctures and grow tools. Requests outside that area are unlikely to fit its production.

How long does a custom product take?

Lead times are agreed per project. Ask for the current estimate after the feasibility check.
