Private label mushroom products made to your specification

Private label mushroom products are grow kits, grow bags, truffles or related items that Mondo produces to your specification and packs in your own design, sold under your brand. You decide more than with white label, and you prepare more. The model suits established brands and distributors that want a line that is recognisably their own. Exclusivity is a separate agreement, see exclusive partnerships.

What is private label, and how does it differ from white label?

Private label means the product or its packaging is specified with you and made for your brand. With white label, an existing Mondo product gets your brand. The line between the two is not always sharp, so the table shows where it usually falls.

Who is private label for?

  • Brands with an existing customer base that want products only they sell.
  • Distributors that supply several countries and want one house brand with packaging adapted per market.
  • Wellness brands that sell microdosing products and want their own presentation, where local law allows those products.

If you have not sold the category before, wholesale gives you sales data first. Private label works best when you already know which products and strains your customers buy.

How does a private label project run?

Private label projects follow a set order, because each step depends on the one before.

1
Briefing. Describe the products, strains, formats, packaging and target countries you have in mind.
2
Feasibility. Mondo tells you which parts of your brief fit its production and which do not. What can be adjusted is agreed per project.
3
Specification. Product, format and packaging are written down, including the legal texts that must be on the pack.
4
Artwork and approval. You supply the packaging design; you approve the final proof.
5
Production run. Mondo produces in-house in Purmerend.
6
Delivery or fulfillment. Products go to you, or Mondo stores and ships them through fulfillment.

What should your brief contain?

  • ☐ Products and strains (for grow kits: which Psilocybe cubensis strains).
  • ☐ Packaging: format, materials if you have a preference, and your artwork.
  • ☐ Label languages and target countries.
  • ☐ Expected volume for the first run and for reorders.
  • ☐ Sales channels and launch date you are working towards.
  • ☐ Company details, including VAT or chamber of commerce number.

What is agreed per partner?

Minimum run sizes, development and packaging costs, lead time from approval to delivery, prices and payment terms are agreed per partner. None of them are published. The specification you agree is the reference for every reorder, so it pays to get it complete before the first run.

Legal responsibility sits with the brand

Your name is on the pack, so your label and marketing must fit the law in every country you sell in. Mondo’s products are sold for mycological research, educational, horticultural or souvenir purposes, to adults (18+), and you should not add health or therapeutic claims. Even in the Netherlands only part of the range is open: grow kits, spores and mycelium are not controlled substances and fresh truffles may be sold, while dried truffles and magic mushrooms may not. See the legal status per country. This is not legal advice.

Questions about private label

Can I develop a completely new product?

Tell Mondo what you have in mind in your briefing. Requests that go beyond adapting an existing product are handled as custom products, and feasibility is agreed per project.

Who owns the packaging design?

You supply the artwork for your brand. Agree in writing who owns which files and what happens to them if the cooperation ends.

Can I change the packaging later?

Yes, but a change means new artwork and a new approval round. Ask how it affects the next run and any remaining stock.

Can I sell private label products in every EU country?

No. Psilocybin truffles are prohibited in many countries, and rules for grow kits and spores also differ. Limit your launch to countries where the products may be sold.

How long does a private label project take?

Lead times are agreed per project and depend on the brief. Ask for the current lead time when you submit your briefing.
