Exclusive distribution partnerships for mushroom products
An exclusive distribution partnership with Mondo gives one business the sole right to distribute agreed Mondo products in an agreed region, in exchange for commitments on its side. It suits distributors and larger retailers that want to build a market for grow kits, truffles or microdosing products without another Mondo partner competing in the same territory. Mondo offers exclusive regional agreements; the terms are agreed per partner.
What is an exclusive partnership?
An exclusive partnership is a distribution agreement in which the supplier promises not to appoint other distributors for a defined territory or customer group. The distributor, in turn, usually commits to actively developing that market. Mondo produces in-house in Purmerend and ships from the Netherlands to business partners across Europe. An exclusive partner typically covers one country or region; whether that territory is still open is part of the first conversation.
How does exclusivity usually work in distribution?
Exclusive distribution agreements in general are built from the same four elements. They are described here as common practice, not as Mondo’s fixed terms.
Element
What it defines
Typical questions
Territory
The country, region or customer group where you are the exclusive distributor
One country or several? Online sales included?
Product scope
Which products the exclusivity covers
Grow kits only, or also truffles, spores, tinctures? Mondo brand, your own label, or both?
Duration
How long the exclusivity runs and how it is renewed or ended
Initial term, renewal, notice period
Performance targets
What the distributor commits to in return
Purchase volumes, market activity, reporting
A fifth point often comes with it: what happens if targets are not met. Common outcomes in distribution are that the exclusivity lapses or narrows, while the supply relationship continues. Which of these applies to you is part of the agreement.
What do EU competition rules say about exclusive territories?
Within the EU, exclusive distribution is allowed within limits. Commission Regulation (EU) 2022/720, in force from 1 June 2022 to 31 May 2034, exempts such agreements where the market shares of supplier and buyer each do not exceed 30%. Under that regulation, a supplier may restrict active sales by its other distributors into an exclusive territory, but passive sales, meaning responses to unsolicited customer requests, cannot be restricted in the same way. In practice, exclusivity protects you against active competition from other Mondo distributors, not against every order that reaches another partner unprompted. Have a lawyer check the agreement for your situation.
Who is an exclusive partnership for?
Distributors that supply smartshops, headshops or growshops in one or more countries.
Larger retailers or webshops that want to invest in a market and need protection for that investment.
Private label brands that want exclusivity on a product line in their market.
It suits businesses with a sales plan for the territory. If you are still testing demand, wholesale is the more sensible start.
How do you apply for exclusivity?
1
Apply as a partner through the become a partner page and state that you want an exclusive agreement.
2
Describe the territory, the products, your sales channels and your current customer base.
3
Add a realistic volume estimate for the first year; it is the basis for the performance targets.
4
Mondo tells you whether the territory is still available. You confirm, with local legal advice where needed, that the products may be sold there.
5
Territory, scope, duration and targets are agreed and put in writing.
6
You order through the B2B order portal at mondoeurope.brincr.com.
What is agreed per partner?
Everything in the table above, plus prices, minimum purchase volumes, lead times and payment terms, is agreed per partner. Mondo does not publish standard exclusivity terms, because they depend on the size of the territory and the products involved.
Exclusivity only where the products are legal
An exclusive right is worth nothing for a product that may not be sold in your territory. Of the 14 countries in our legal overview, only the Netherlands confirms that selling fresh truffles is not prohibited, and grow kits and spores are prohibited, contested or unclear in many of the others. Products are sold for mycological research, educational, horticultural or souvenir purposes, to adults (18+). See the legal status per country. This is not legal advice.

✓Producing in the Netherlands since 2009✓In-house production in Purmerend✓Wholesale, dropshipping, white and private label
Mondo Mycologicals is the B2B side of Mondo Europe B.V.: grow kits, grow bags, magic truffles, spores, liquid cultures and grow tools, produced in Purmerend and shipped to business partners across Europe.
That is possible to discuss. The territory is one of the terms agreed per partner, alongside product scope, duration and targets.
Does exclusivity cover online sales?
Under EU rules, passive sales from outside your territory cannot be blocked outright. Discuss with Mondo how online channels are treated in your agreement, and have the wording checked.
What happens if another Mondo partner already sells in my region?
Ask in your application. If a region is already covered, the options for exclusivity are narrower, and that should be clear before anything is agreed.
Can exclusivity cover my own label?
It can, if that is agreed: product scope may include white label or private label lines. This is settled per partner.
Is an exclusive partnership required to sell Mondo products?
No. Most models, such as wholesale and dropshipping, work without exclusivity. See all B2B models.
